The Memorial

The Memorial is in a Celtic cross style made of what appears to be Granite, the base that carries the names of the fallen is of the same stone type, with the names in black.  Halfway up the cross section is a 45 degree crack that has been repaired at some time, and more than likely caused when the Memorial was moved to its present position after the Chapel was demolished.

The exact year of the memorial being erected at Providence has yet to be ascertained but the Trustees minutes 29th of January 1921 reports. “The trustees grant with pleasure the request of the War Memorial Committee the privilege of erecting a memorial in memory of the fallen soldiers of the Sunday School,” so I should imagine sometime in the 1920’s this Memorial came to be.
