In 1913 shortly before the outbreak of the First World War a group of “workers” (local people who worshipped at Providence) assembled in the garden of a property in Loveclough for group photographs, in age order, i.e. older Gentlemen and Ladies and the younger Gentlemen and Ladies. The pictures are from the centenary book of 1946, and include the Parents of some who served and fell in the Great War, and the actual individuals themselves such as Harold Spencer and his brothers.
The Photograph below is of a Wedding at Providence of Miss Gertrude Holt and Milton Heap, it is taken in the Chapel grounds, with the side view of the chapel looking toward Burnley. The War Memorial now stands just behind the two ladies extreme right with the dark hats. Front row extreme left is the Reverend E F Lord and his wife, Rev Lord left Providence in 1914.

Very interesting and I am so pleased that the memory of Providence Chapel is being preserved. It will have been such an important part of so many lives and now will be sadly unknown to most locals. A friend sent me the stuff about Albert Lord and his gallant comrades of 1/4 Kings Own Royal Regiment at the Somme, very humbling. I live in Edenfield and the Methodist Chapel here closed this year but we have managed to preserve the War Memorials which will be re- erected in the Parish Church, staying in the village where they should be.
